What to Expect at Your Eye Exam
Many people get nervous before an eye exam, but at North Georgia Vision Center, Inc., we ensure you’re comfortable and understand what to expect before your exam begins. During your eye exam, our doctors will look at your health history and your family’s health history to determine any risk factors. A family history of eye disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, or poor vision may put you at a higher risk for eye problems.
Our eye doctors will then conduct a few vision tests to check for nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and potential eye conditions.
iWellness Scan
The iWellness eye scan is recommended for all adult patients, but especially for patients who:
- Are over 40
- Have diabetes
- Have a family history of glaucoma or macular degeneration
- Are highly nearsighted
Using Spectral Domain OCT technology, these brief sans can detect early changes in the retina, including changes from glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration BEFORE they can be seen in a routine eye exam.
The Optomap Retinal Exam
- Is fast, easy, and comfortable
- May alleviate the need for dilation
- Provides a permanent record for annual review
An Optomap Exam includes a panoramic image of the surface of your retina and an OCT scan showing deeper structures inside your retina. These images help our doctors assess the health of your eyes and check for conditions, including macular degeneration, glaucoma, and retinal detachments.
